The Kromski Hemp Drive Cord is the traditional natural fibre drive belt for Kromski spinning wheels. It transfers the power of the flywheel to the flyer and is the classic replacement material that has been used in spinning wheel construction for centuries. Hemp is easy to cut, tie and adjust without tools.
The Natural Original
Hemp drive cords have a slightly rougher surface than synthetic belts and therefore grip especially well on the flywheel. They are easy to repair: an overhand knot joins the ends securely without glue or tools. In high humidity, hemp may swell slightly – for dry workshop environments it is ideal.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join the ends? Most easily with an overhand knot. Shorten the cord to the right length before knotting – it should run with slight tension, but not too tight.
Can I mix hemp and poly cords? Yes, only one drive cord runs on a spinning wheel at a time. You can switch between them at any time.
