The Kromski Vertical Lazy Kate holds bobbins in an upright, vertical position — unlike the Arched Kate where bobbins lie flat on a frame. This design has a clear advantage: the Vertical Kate takes up significantly less floor space. Anyone who spins in a smaller workspace — at a desk, in a corner, or on an ottoman — will appreciate this.
Despite the compact design, the yarn tension per bobbin is adjustable — a feature often missing on simpler stands. The tension prevents the bobbin from unwinding too quickly and the yarn from going slack or bunching up. Especially when plying multiple strands simultaneously, this is decisive.

When is the Vertical better than the Arched Lazy Kate?
The Vertical Kate is the right choice when space matters or you ply occasionally. Those who ply daily and frequently, especially with three strands at once, benefit from the guided yarn path of the Arched Kate. Both hold the same bobbins with the same tension control.
Can I use it for 2-ply spinning?
Yes — it is designed for 1 to 3 bobbins simultaneously. With 2-ply, two positions are loaded and one stays empty. The tension of each bobbin used can be adjusted independently.
Is it compatible with bobbins from other manufacturers?
The Vertical Lazy Kate is designed for Kromski standard bobbins. Bobbins from other brands may fit but are not guaranteed — spindle diameter and length vary by manufacturer. If in doubt, please ask: kundenservice@spinnraeder.de.
