Merino wool top for spinning and felting in 76 colours

Kromski Standard wool top is European merino with 26 to 28 microns. The fibre has a nice grip, drafts evenly and forgives small mistakes. That is why we like to recommend exactly this quality for your first metres on a drop spindle or spinning wheel. It is also very rewarding for wet felting and needle felting.

The wool comes from Poland, Germany, Slovenia and Hungary, is mulesing free and not superwash treated. You get it in bags of 250 g or 500 g. 250 g is enough for a hat and a scarf, for a vest or a light sweater you will want 500 g or more. If you are still deciding how to start, have a look at our guide drop spindle or spinning wheel.

Frequently asked questions

Is this wool top suitable for beginners?
Yes. At 26 to 28 microns the fibre is a little sturdier than fine merino. It does not slip away as quickly while drafting, so you keep control of your yarn. Our guide buying and using a drop spindle shows you how to get started.

Can I wear the wool next to my skin?
That depends on you. It works very well for socks, hats, jackets and blankets. If your skin is sensitive, choose the Kromski Premium wool top with 22 to 24 microns for scarves and shawls.

Why is Natural Ecru cheaper?
Natural Ecru 55 is undyed. You can dye it yourself or blend it with coloured top on your carders. Colours on screen may differ slightly, the Kromski colour card shows you the real shades.
